Handmade Tallow Lip Balm Recipe
Want to make some handmade tallow products, but don’t know where to start? Try making a tallow lip balm. This lip balm recipe will quickly become your favorite lip balm to use daily.
Why use Tallow in Lip Balm?
Crafting your own tallow lip balm is a wonderful way to create a nourishing, all-natural product that your lips will love. Tallow, rendered from beef or lamb fat, is rich in skin-loving nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K, making it an excellent base for lip care.
Combined with other natural ingredients like beeswax and essential oils, this balm is hydrating and protective, especially during harsh weather. Plus, making it yourself ensures you know exactly what’s going into your lip balm, free from synthetic additives or chemicals.

Supplies Needed to Make Tallow Lip Balm

Process to Make Tallow Lip Balm Recipe
Measure out your hard ingredients and place them in the double boiler. I want to note that you can melt in the microwave, too, but I prefer to use a double boiler. I think it is much easier to keep an eye on the ingredients and ensure you don’t overheat them.
Melt the hard ingredients (tallow, beeswax, shea butter) – and remove from the heat. Add Vitamin E oil and essential oils and mix well.
Pour into lip balm containers. This process can be very messy, especially if you don’t have a lip balm tray (but still doable!) But just take your time and pour carefully!
Allow to cool and add labels if you would like – I like to use online labels for my lip balm container labels. I design my labels on Canva and upload the image to Maestro to print.
Enjoy! Place a lip balm in every pocket of every jacket, your car, diaper bag, purse, backpack – you will love this tallow recipe and need to have them everywhere! (At least that is where all of mine are, including every room of the house.) 😉
