Simple Christmas Wreath for Front Door
I am sharing my Simple Grapevine Christmas Wreath that I made for the front door.
This Christmas season I am craving simplicity and less clutter. Starting with the Christmas wreaths – I have kept them simple with a pop of red which is perfect for this holiday season.
For a front door wreath, I like to use a grapevine wreath. This is for a few reasons, but mainly because it will hang nicely on a command hook and will not get blown off by the wind. (hang on while I go check on my wreath right now 😆). Another reason I am making a grapevine Christmas wreath is that I can put the branches in the wreath and won’t have to hot glue anything into place.

Prepping a Simple Christmas Wreath
I choose to go with cedar branches for this wreath, and headed out with my branch cutters to grab a few. I just want to say, that even though I used real cedar branches for this Christmas wreath, you can use another type of branch or faux branches for this simple DIY wreath.

After cutting the branches, I soaked the branches in my laundry sink filled with water for about a day. This is important to keep your cedar branches looking fresh and not dried out.
I do want to note – that if your wreath is indoors, you should mist it with water every 1-2 days to make sure it does not dry out. If your DIY wreath is outdoors, it should be misted every few days. If it is snowy and lots of moisture in the air (like our winters are) I don’t mist the front door wreaths. I just let it be and pull out the crispy branches in the springtime.
Making a DIY Grapevine Christmas Wreath
Using the gardening shears, I cut the cedar branches into smaller more manageable pieces. Sticking the smaller branches into the grapevine wreath, I began to shape the wreath. I chose to have the branches on the side of the wreath. You can also place the branches on the top or bottom, depending on which look you prefer.
The grapevine wreath that I have has a lot of vines – so I am able to stick the branches in between and not worry about the branches falling out. If yours does not have the same, you can secure the branches with hot glue or floral wire.
I added cedar branches until I got my desired fullness with branches meeting in the middle and extending out on opposite sides. I then attached a red bow in the middle of the meeting branches and secured it with a tie and hot glue.
After making the wreath, I attached it to the front door with an outdoor command hook. I just want to note, that I have had this same command hook on my front door for a couple of years – and it has not budged!
